"Smack Crossed Lovers," Hardison Collins' homage to Sid and Nancy, will be available at the Rock and Roll Swap Meet on March 26.

MUSICAL MARKET: ROCK AND ROLL SWAP MEET
If you love rock ‘n’ roll, or any music really, this event Sunday at Cage Brewing in St. Petersburg is for you. The Rock and Roll Swap Meet will not only have nine bands performing, including Car Bomb Driver, Pretty Voices and Mondo Diablo, but there will also be vendors selling vinyl, CDs, books and memorabilia. The event isn’t really a swap meet, so no trading, but more of an indie market that includes Daddy Kool Records, WMNF Community Radio and Planet Retro Records as vendors. If you’re in the market for some rockin’ art, they’ve got you covered there too, including Hardison Collins’ large-scale pop art “EyeHurts,” like the one of Sid and Nancy that’s pictured. There’s a $5 cover charge, but I’d say for nine bands and tons of cool stuff, that’s a deal. Oh yeah, and you can grab a nice cold beer (or a few) at Cage Brewing, 2001 First Ave. S. The event runs from 2-7 p.m. …

Katy Perry's rainbow-colored shoe line is giving us life

Katy Perry's "Hillary," a shoe named after Hillary Clinton. $139.

Katy Perry's "Hillary," a shoe named after Hillary Clinton. $139.

Did you know Katy Perry had a shoe line? It doesn't really matter. Everyone has a shoe line. My cat has a shoe line (it's kind of rote, to be honest, but she doesn't get out much).

However, in the saturated realm of celeb shoe lines, Katy Perry's new collection is exceedingly on-point. The collection dropped in February, and the headline-making design has been one named for Hillary Clinton, pictured above (Perry is a noted supporter). But if you get past that political nugget, you enter a vast wonderland of multicolored foot confections. The styles, many of which are named after Perry's famous friends, are available at Macy's and online. I'll take ten!

Some highlights:

The Stella, $139

The Kate, $115

The Carmen, $139

The Perry, $149

The Richie, $169

The Jackie, $169

The Margot, $100

The Shannon, $129

The Geli, $49

Find your perfect shade of green to wear on St. Patrick's Day

It's St. Patrick's Day tomorrow, so you better wear something green or you'll get pinched! Not everyone can carry off the shamrock green associated with St. Paddy's, but there is a shade of green for everyone. Color consultant Jill Kirsh, "Hollywood's Guru of Hue," has suggestions on which green is right for you, which she bases on hair color. Find your celebrity doppelganger below to learn which green to go with.

Warm blondes like Margot Robbie have more fun in Kelly green.

Deep brunettes like Taraji P. Henson rock emerald green like a boss.

While golden browns like Jennifer Lopez or redheads like Emma Stone can easily pull off a variety of greens, olive is the most flattering for those tones, according to Kirsh.

Helen Mirren is a great example of how fresh mint green is on ash blondes, platinum and grey hair.

Now that you've found your ideal hue, you're St. Paddy's Day ready. And you don't have to lie and say that you're wearing green underwear to avoid getting pinched. …

Funky headpieces, masks and body art are on display at ARTpool's Mad Hatter's Masquerade Ball on March 18.

Tip Your Hat: Mad Hatter’s Masquerade
ARTpool knows how to throw an art party, and they say that the Mad Hatter’s Masquerade Ball is the fanciest of the year. The event Saturday in St. Petersburg has a lot going on: an art show, video art presentation, body art and a fashion show featuring unique hats, masks and custom couture from local designers. Don’t expect to see some ordinary fedoras going down the runway; it’s much more Eyes Wide Shut, with a Venetian, dark fantasy theme. Guests are encouraged to dress up, as there will be a costume contest. All attendees must wear a hat or a mask to get in. The party runs from 8 p.m. to midnight. $15, $25 VIP. artpoolgallery.com. …

Party Arty: Trashy Treasures at DFAC
Trashy Treasures, the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s “art garage sale, ” is so much more than that. Yes, you can shop the donated art, books, frames and supplies on Saturday, but Friday night’s event elevates it to a fringe arts festival. This year’s theme is Steamy Punk, and people are encouraged to dress up in more adult-oriented interpretations, and enter a costume contest with prizes. $10 gets you into the party, which begins at 6 p.m. where there will be cash bars, music and everyone gets a free hot dog and drink. Guests can also bid on the best of donated items, culled by the staff of the DFAC, in a silent auction. The garage sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday is free to attend. 1143 Michigan Blvd. (727) 298-3322. dfac.org. …

Shopping Planner: 321 Books, Shop St. Pete and more

Thousands of books for $3 and under will be available at the grand opening of 321 Books at Tyrone Square mall this weekend.

Thousands of books for $3 and under will be available at the grand opening of 321 Books at Tyrone Square mall this weekend.

Literary Rescue: 321 Books Grand Opening
Tyrone Square mall hasn’t had a bookstore since Borders closed years ago. True, Barnes and Noble is just across the street, but being that I’m old enough to remember when every mall had a bookstore, this was sad to me. Now those pangs can dissipate because 321 Books is opening in a 10,000-square-foot space at Tyrone Square on Friday. The company is one of Amazon’s largest used-book sellers, operating out of a warehouse in Clearwater. They find books cheap at thrift stores and receive donations. As a result, no book is priced more than $3, and they have a trade-in deal where you get a book for every two you bring in of the same type. Beyond books, they’ll also sell CDs, DVDs, records, school supplies and more. Read more about 321 Books here. They open at 10 a.m. Friday, in Tyrone Square mall (6901 22nd Ave. N, St. Petersburg), in the space that the Gap previously occupied, near JCPenney. …

Oscars 2017 red carpet fashion recap (with video)

Now with video!

At this hour in the day, after last night's late, late Oscars cast, reading feels like a tall order. As me how I know. If you still want a fashion recap but don't want to attempt to process words on a page, here I am describing it for you on video. Don't say we never do anything for you.

Oscars fashion recap: Hardly a neck in sight!

Janelle Monae owns the red carpet before the 89th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Noel West/The New York Times

Well, well, well.

Remember how Faye Dunaway read the wrong best movie winner? THAT WAS WEIRD.

We're all in a chocolate haze of confusion here at the office, so it helps to focus on one thing in order to concentrate. Let's do that with fashion while others scramble to decode what just happened at the end of The Dullest Oscars In History Until the Last Three Minutes.

So, fashion! Remember how everyone came to the Golden Globes in plunging necklines that traveled all the way to belly buttons? And then all the fashion prognosticators were like, this is the year of the flat cleavage! They shall all come with long, exposed sternums, come, come they shall!

The stylists must have been in a fit trying to go against the grain, because a ton of stars showed up to the 89th Academy Awards wearing the exact opposite. Mock turtlenecks! High collars! Ruffle chokers! That, coupled with the abundant American Civil Liberties Union ribbons, made me wonder if it was less pure trend, like a single shoulder or a fishtail, and more of a concerted move away from overt sexualization, from chest tape and sliced abdominal cutouts. Ask us more. Give us jobs. We are up here.

Let us explore.

Your boyfriend probably wants you to wash your hair more often

Make hair washing more enjoyable by getting a young Robert Redford to do it for you.

Make hair washing more enjoyable by getting a young Robert Redford to do it for you.

How often do you wash your hair?

It's confusing, right? One minute, the pros are telling you to barely ever wash it, to let your natural oils do the work because all that shampooing can be drying. The next, as in, this moment, they're saying, wash more!

The New York Times reports that the people who love women and have to smell them are begging stylists to advocate for more washing, because, well, you stink. A couple days is fine. Ten days of not washing, studded with frequent workouts and a spritz of dry shampoo is not delightful. (This story is from January, but just sailed into my FB feed this morning, so you're getting it now.)

I am with Camp 2. Dry shampoo doesn't do much for me. I can go two days, three at most before feeling like Dan Aykroyd in Trading Places

A couple of problems with this piece, though.

A) It's pretty much about white women. And B) The story describes weekly the habits of these women thusly:

"Instead of regularly lathering up at home, a weekly routine might now go like this: a blowout at a blow-dry bar, dry shampoo, dry shampoo, dry shampoo, followed by another professional styling session, and so on." …

Review: It's Stitch Fix for Men vs. Trunk Club in a battle for my closet

The box from Trunk Club arrived a full two days faster than my Stitch Fix.

Christopher Spata | Times

The box from Trunk Club arrived a full two days faster than my Stitch Fix.

There's a new competitor on the subscription box scene. Stitch Fix For Men launched in September, offering guys who don't like to shop, or maybe don't have much time for it, their own version of the popular Stitch Fix, which some women swear by (and others, not so much).

The idea, as I interpret it, is that technology can raise your fashion game to the level of having a personal stylist, once only a thing for celebs and rich people, but at a reasonable price (we'll get into exactly how "reasonable" it is later). Through the magic of the internet, they gather some info about you, then send you clothes that you can try on at home and keep, or not.

Since I secretly kind of want to dress like both a celebrity and a rich person, and I'm always up for claiming I don't have time for things, I was interested in trying a subscription fashion box. I don't think my style is bad really, but I could liven things up. So I tested out the new Stitch Fix for Men, as well as the old stalwart, Nordstrom-owned Trunk Club, which has been aiming to help guys improve their wardrobe for eight years now. Here's what happened:

Fit For A Queen: African Fashions Pop Up

Has anyone else noticed daishikis everywhere lately? I’ve certainly noticed an influx of beautiful African fabric clothing, and my Pinterest board can prove it. I’m excited about the African Fashions Pop Up in Tampa on Saturday. Based in Oak Park, Mich., African Fashions design and create stunning apparel using intricate, colorful African fabrics. The branch of Motherland Fabrics travels around the country to hold events with apparel and fabrics for sale, local accessory vendors and a fashion show. Yemisi Bamisaye is the designer behind African Fashions who transforms the exquisite fabrics into even more stunning pieces of wearable art. I love her modern take on the daishiki, which gets an update by having a hood. Structured dresses, regal maxi skirts, chic capes and head wraps are other favorites. Prices are reasonable, and if you have a business, they offer wholesale pricing. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hall at Seminole Heights, 4205 N Florida Ave. facebook.com/african.fashions.

Who Loves Ya? Valentine’s Day Make and Takes
I suspect that most Valentine’s Day gifts are bought last minute, even though the stores have been full of heart-shaped items since Dec. 26. If you haven’t gotten your boo anything yet, you’re probably not alone. This year, why not make your gift? A few places around the area can help you be creatively thoughtful.

For kid-friendly activities, Great Explorations Children’s Museum in St. Petersburg is having a “Hearts and Crafts” day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Cool Community: Localtopia
Downtown St. Petersburg’s Williams Park will be transformed into a hotbed of activity on Saturday, thanks to the annual Localtopia festival, left. Keep Saint Petersburg Local brings enough variety in activities and goods that it’s family-friendly, but cool enough for the hipsters, too. While the event is predominantly St. Petersburg businesses, they will have a few outsiders in a section they’re calling “Neighbors and Nomads.” The event is organized into “villages.” The Arts Village will include the Native Collective; the Health and Wellness Village will feature Brick Street Farms; you’ll find men’s clothing vendor Grey Space, among many others at the Makers and Merchants Village and a skate ramp and Anchor Skate Supply at the Skate Village.
The Family Village is where a bunch of fun activities happen, including the Tampa Bay Rowdies doing Human Foosball. Vendors on wheels include the Nomad Art Bus and Ashe Couture’s Airstream. The event has a full lineup of entertainment, including music from Lounge Cat.
