Bastille concert Monday in St. Petersburg canceled due to Hurricane Irma

Yet another local concert has bitten the dust due to Hurricane Irma.

Monday's acoustic show by Pompeii rockers Bastille at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg has been canceled, organizers WSUN-97.1 FM said Tuesday. The alt-rock station had already postponed a handful of ticket drops over the last few days as Tampa Bay residents waited out the storm.

"We have looked at all options available to avoid canceling the show, including moving to an alternate venue, but at this time we cannot guarantee a venue that will ber ready and staffed for a safe and successful show for both the band and our listeners," 97X said in a statement. "We apologize to all fans who were planning on attending and we send our thoughts for a quick recovery to the people of Tampa Bay and all of Florida."

Part of the reason for Bastille's cancellation -- as well as a canceled show by Marlon Wayans on Saturday -- is that the city-owned Mahaffey Theater is being used as a living and staging area for Duke Energy employees working to restore power throughout St. Petersburg.

Beth Herendeen, a spokesperson for operators the Edwards Group, said the facility would host workers "basically until they're done. We're hearing at least through the week, but very possibly into next week as well."

She did not anticipate that the work would impact the next scheduled show at the Mahaffey, a Sept. 28 show by comic John Mulaney.
