Teen charged with assault after ramming patrol car with stolen car in Plant City, deputies say

PLANT CITY — A 16-year-old faces an assault charge after he rammed a deputy's patrol car with a stolen car on Sunday, authorities say.

The Plant City teen, who is not being named because of his age, intentionally drove a stolen black Chrysler 300 into a marked patrol car on a dead end street in the Walden Lake subdivision, according to the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office. Two deputies inside the car were not injured.

The deputies had received a report of a stolen Chrysler and spotted the car turning onto Timberlane Drive about 1:10 p.m., the Sheriff's Office said. The Chrysler accelerated onto Alcott Drive and then Kilmer Drive, a dead end with a cul de sac. The Chrysler's driver then turned around and approached the deputies' patrol car head-on. The deputies turned on their emergency lights and stopped and the Chrysler driver rammed their patrol car.

The teen driver and a passenger then fled on foot. The deputies caught up to the driver behind a home on Kilmer Drive and one of the deputies used a stun gun after he refused commands to lay on the ground and took an aggressive stance, according to the Sheriff's Office. The boy fell down and complied after that.

The teen was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, resisting a law enforcement officer without violence and grand theft of a motor vehicle.

Deputies were still working Monday to identify and locate the passenger.
