Schumacher takes No.1 spot in Top Fuel at Gatornationals

GAINESVILLE — Tony Schumacher secured his first No. 1 qualifying spot this season in Top Fuel for today's eliminations at the NHRA Gator­nationals at Gainesville Raceway.

Schumacher, who is bidding to become the first five-time Top Fuel winner at Gatornationals, secured the top spot Saturday based on Friday's track-record run of 3.682 seconds (328.22 mph).

Doug Kalitta qualified second with 3.698 at 328.78, defending world champion Antron Brown (3.716, 326.24) is third and defending Gatornationals winner Brittany Force (3.719, 326.79) is fourth.

John Force captured the 155th No. 1 qualifier of his Funny Car career with a track-record 3.832 at 333.25. Jason Line leads Pro Stock and Jerry Savoie is the top qualifier in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

XFINITY: Justin Allgaier held on to the lead in a restart with four laps to go and won the Solar 200 in scorching heat at Avondale, Ariz., for his first victory in five years. Allgaier, with an average speed of 91.017 mph, held off Ryan Blaney and Erik Jones. The temperature at Phoenix International Raceway was 93 degrees when the race started and 96 by the end.

ENDURANCE: Ricky Taylor drove the final lap for the Wayne Taylor team to win the 12 Hours of Sebring sports car race. Taylor's Cadillac P-class completed 348 laps with a top time of 1 minute, 49.987 seconds. Joao Barbosa was 13.614 back.
