Rowdies clinch home playoff game with win in finale

ORLANDO — The Rowdies shut out Orlando City B 2-0 in Thursday's regular-season finale, clinching a home game in the USL quarterfinals.

The Rowdies will have an Eastern Conference playoff matchup Oct. 21 at Al Lang Stadium against an opponent to be determined. The Rowdies (14-7-11, 53 points) moved up to second in the East with the win Thursday and will finish at least fourth in the conference, depending on Saturday's results.

Against Orlando City B, Georgi Hristov scored off a header in the 74th minute and Sebastian Guenzatti scored in second-half stoppage time.

"I'm really happy that I scored, but I'm way happier to get a home playoff game," Hristov said. "It wasn't an easy game because they have so much energy, but I think we played so well and showed so much character that we were in control the whole game."

Orlando City B needed a win to remain in postseason contention. It had only two shots on goal. Rowdies goalkeeper Matt Pickens got his ninth shutout of the season.

"I thought it was a really, really good performance," Rowdies coach Stuart Campbell said. "I thought we dominated the game from start to finish. We knew if we kept playing in that manner, the goals would come, and I'm really, really happy for the guys that they did come."
