NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
City of Plant City, Florida
The City of Plant City will hold a Public Hearing on May 27, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the City Commission Chambers, 302 West Reynolds Street, Plant City, Florida, for the purpose of receiving public comment on the intent of the Florida Department of Commerce (Florida Commerce) to award the City with Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG‑DR) funds under the Rebuild Florida Hurricane Ian Hazard Mitigation Grant Match Program (HMGMP).
Florida Commerce has issued its intent to award the City of Plant City a total of $142,437.75 in CDBG‑DR HMGMP funding. This award is based on the City’s Utility Communication Tower Infrastructure Retrofit Project, which has received a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) award from the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM). As an HMGP subrecipient, the City has been deemed preliminarily eligible to receive FEMA’s required local match through this CDBG‑DR program.
The proposed project will enhance the reliability of the City’s utility infrastructure communication system during storm events by providing a stable and independent power source. This improvement is essential for maintaining continuous monitoring and operational oversight of the City’s Water Treatment Plants, Water Reclamation Facility, and all public sewer lift stations. The project includes installation of a stand‑alone generator for the communication tower, establishment of an independent electrical power supply with an upgraded control panel, and improvements to the lift station communication system to ensure uninterrupted service during emergencies.
All interested persons are invited to attend the public hearing and be heard. Written comments may be submitted prior to the hearing to the City Manager’s Office, 302 West Reynolds Street, Plant City, FL 33563. Comments may also be submitted by email to Hye Kwag at hkwag@plantcitygov.com.
Persons requiring special accommodations to participate in this hearing should contact the City Clerk’s Office at least 48 hours in advance, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
