NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Southwest Florida Water Management District has received Environmental Resource permit application number 934182 from the City of St. Petersburg (City), located in the vicinity of the Shore Acres neighborhood.
Application received: 02/02/2026
Proposed Activity: The City of St. Petersburg proposes a project to mitigate recurrent flooding in the Shore Acres neighborhood, which experiences frequent roadway and property flooding during heavy rainfall and tidal events. The project area extends from Delaware Avenue NE (north) to Arizona Avenue NE (south), and from Huntington Street NE (west) to Bayshore Boulevard and Tampa Bay (east). Key improvements include construction of a new stormwater pump station, installation of box culverts, abandonment of existing outfalls, roadway regrading and resurfacing, utility relocations, and replacement of approximately 60 feet of seawall with riprap stabilization. The project will also include minor dredging for the new outfall and site restoration with sidewalks and sodding. Additionally, the project includes the permanent closure of the easternmost portion of Connecticut Avenue NE to vehicular traffic - an area that is already functionally closed as a “No Outlet”- to accommodate the pump station site. Construction will occur within an existing developed right-of-way and upland areas, covering less than 10 acres, and will not increase the overall impervious surface. The project is anticipated to take approximately five years to complete following permit approvals.
